I never thought I’d post on Reddit, but here we are. Some things went down this past weekend and I genuinely need outside perspective. Sorry it’s long, but I promise—it’s worth the read.
PS: I’ve NEVER posted on Reddit before, so please be kind 😅
Okay, let’s get into it.
My boyfriend Shaun (M25) and I, Rach (F24), have been together for almost 3 years. We have a solid, healthy relationship and definitely see a future together.
This past weekend, we planned a trip to the Harrison Tulip Festival (about 2.5 hours away) with a group: Shaun, me, his friend Lex, Lex’s girlfriend Shi, Shi’s friend Teri, and Shaun’s roommates/friends Max and Rex.
Now, some context.
Lex and Shi have been together longer than us, but… let’s just say she doesn’t have the best reputation in the group. A lot of his friends think she’s manipulative and very “queen bee” energy—he gives, she takes.
Quick example: she wanted a camera for her content page and said she’d “earn it herself” by doing Uber Eats. Sounds great, right? Turns out Lex was the one actually doing the deliveries—with his car and gas—while she kept the money. There are also stories of her blowing up over small things (like literally throwing a glass of water on the ground during an argument). So… that’s the vibe.
Anyway, we rent a minivan (2-2-3 seating). On the way to Harrison, the three guys—who are all pretty big—sit cramped in the back, while us three girls sit comfortably in the front. No complaints, everyone adjusts, all good.
We get to the festival, have an amazing time, and I suggest extending the trip to Kelowna (only ~2.5 hours away). Everyone is immediately on board, we book an Airbnb, and head out. Still, everything is great.
Here’s where things start to go downhill.
We stop for food, and on the way back to the car, Shaun asks if the girls can switch to the back for a bit because the guys are pretty uncomfortable—Max had even mentioned his back was hurting earlier.
I move without a second thought.
Shi refuses. She says she wants to sit next to Lex.
Teri immediately backs her up and refuses to move too.
Shaun tries to reason with them, but they won’t budge. Eventually, he says, “Shi, what is this entitled behavior?”
That’s it. That’s the moment everything explodes from.
Lex jumps in and rearranges seating in a way that doesn’t actually fix the issue, since the two guys are still sitting at the back ,and we move on. The car ride is awkward but quiet.
The car ride to the Airbnb goes more or less without any problems. At another pit stop, Shaun and Lex went to talk. Shaun said he’d speak to Shi, but Lex said he would talk to her and that Shaun should apologize. My boyfriend didn’t feel sorry but said he would still speak to her to clear the air. In the car, he also asked openly to clear the air, and Shi said everything was fine. The two girls even move to the back but max is still sitting at the back with them . Whatever, okay then, we’re good.
Or so we thought.
