Questions about NZ apply for citenship by conferal
Hi all,
For some context, I’m a NZ citizen and first entered Australia in February 2023. As it’s now my fourth year living here, I recently started looking into applying for citizenship.
Unfortunately, due to my lack of foresight, I didn’t realise there was a 12-month limit on time spent outside Australia while calculating eligibility. Over the past few years I’ve travelled overseas a number of times to visit family, and I now appear to be over that limit by around three weeks.
I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation before, and whether there tends to be any leniency around this requirement? And if I do have to recalculate the four years, would this be done by moving my start date to a later date that I re-entered Australia?
