I was reading my cards when I noticed the incense was like this. Any idea why?

I have this Discman from 2002 (aprox) and recently I bought cable earbuds to use it. Thing is, it only plays audio on both buds if I plug it halfway like it shows in the picture. When plug it fully, only the left earbud works. I was wondering what I could do or what the cause is.
