Social Media Background Check
I got a job offer, pending background check.
There is an account on X I never started, in my name. This was part of a harassment campaign I was the target of because of a petition. My target was incel misogynists. They threatened death, rape, my children etc. they created multiple fake accounts of me. The obviously fake ones got taken down when I repeatedly reported them, but not this one. It doesn’t have anything very offensive, just swearing. Makes me look like a typical “angry feminist”, but there’s no extremism or like bullying or whatever.
The account was found during the background check. I explained to the recruiter who is going to the prospective employer with my explanation, but I’m so worried. I’ve tried so many times to get the account removed over the years. I tried to claim I made it and submitted my photo ID to prove I owned it and could they take it down, and they said the photo doesn’t look like me! Of course not. It’s a weird photoshopped photo.
I don’t know what to do. Has this happened to anyone else?
