Curious about being pushed into “career” as nMom was a feminist

She always emphasized never depending on any man she we grew up. But most of all it was emphasized career, career, career. Don’t “just” be a secretary. Be the leader. Be important. It was always brought up at our LONG dinner hours as she exposed her importance in her own field, discussed the other employees to the point t where we knew their children’s names, yet she never even knew of I had homework. (Stopped doing it when i realized she didn’t care)… as far as report cards I would hear, “did you do your best” and I would tearfully say yes, “okay then” (she just didn’t see us) but then this emphasis on success at work it just baffles me. Have any of you experienced this? When O did get out in the world I was completely unprepared. Lack of discipline mainly. Yet I wanted to be in charge. Found out the hard way it doesn’t work that way.
