My mom has a 2013 Buick LaCrosse Hybrid and we recently found evidence that some kind of animal (mouse/squirrel/rat) got under the hood and chewed through part of the wiring harness. We also noticed a big hole in the hood insulation/fiber liner where it looks like it was nesting.

Here’s a picture of the damage. The exposed wires are near the front of the engine bay. The car still runs but we’re worried about hidden damage or hybrid-system related repairs.

We’re mainly trying to figure out:

  • Does this look repairable by splicing wires, or would the whole harness need replacement?
  • Roughly how much could this cost at:
    • an independent mechanic
    • dealership
  • Is this something insurance usually covers under comprehensive?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some guidance or recommendations for an ERISA disability lawyer who works on contingency.

I had long-term disability (LTD) coverage through my employer (T-Mobile), which became effective April 1, 2025. I was working full-time and functioning prior to that date.

In May 2025, I had a sudden cardiac event and was hospitalized with chest pain and shortness of breath. I was diagnosed with a serious heart condition and underwent emergency open-heart surgery (CABG x2 and aortic root reconstruction).

I never returned to baseline after that. I continued having fatigue, reduced stamina, and ongoing cardiac issues.

In February 2026, my condition worsened and I went to the ER again with chest pain and shortness of breath. In March 2026, I had a second major open-heart surgery (redo sternotomy, valve replacement, additional bypass).

Despite all of this, The Hartford denied my LTD claim and upheld the denial on appeal. Their reasoning is that my disability is due to a “pre-existing condition” (rheumatoid arthritis / ankylosing spondylitis), even though their own review acknowledges my cardiac condition was not pre-existing.

I now understand I am past the administrative appeal stage and would need to file an ERISA lawsuit.

I’m looking for:

  • ERISA disability lawyers who work on contingency (no upfront fee)
  • Firms experienced with The Hartford specifically
  • Lawyers licensed in Michigan (or nationwide ERISA firms)

I’ve already contacted a few firms, but one wanted $2,500 upfront which I can’t afford.

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
