So, sometime earlier, I appeared in an interview for the position of business development officer in a tech company who's been in existence for some 18+ years. The interview started from intro, past experience, why those startups( projects as they were not registered) failed, learnings, what's your goal, have you read the JD, and their company and product.

When I asked for which product the role is, he said it's given in JD and I think you haven't read the JD well. The JD doesn't mention the product, and also the company website states they've 3 products, shown in homepage. He asked me about my salary expectations, and I told him it depends upon the peak working hours, targeted sales/business generation, conversion rate, and some others. And He asked me to clarify it, and I gave him some example of his two products, and how they differ in terms of leads generation.

we talked in detail about the failed startups and my core strength. I told I'm good at market research, targeted segment analysis, negotiation and the phase for preliminary research which are essential for base decision making, for any product/services market viability.

At the end of interview, he told me sales/selling is the most viable skill, every founder/aspiring founder( everyone) should know how to sell. And he asked me if I want to know or ask any. I ask him about the product, and he explained me in indirect words and direct, and later I told what I understand and he said it is.

But I am thinking now, why he said sales are essential, and for which context( failed startups or just my ability to present better during the interview), while cooking. What I am missing and what's the biases in me, that you can see?

How you can see what the product is from this JD:- ************* Technology is seeking a dynamic and result-driven Business Development Officer (BDO) to drive growth, identify new business opportunities, and build strong client relationships. I recently joined gleeden and found there are very heavy profiles, and users. Is it possible to make for Nepal? How's the legal environment? How difficult is it to develop and maintain, specially against cyber attacks, and data leaks?
