Recently I saw some subscriber only content from a famous influencer on Instagram. The issue isn’t the specific content itself, but it somehow made me uneasy and got me thinking about this contradiction.
If women freely choosing how to present their bodies is considered liberation, then at what point does it start reinforcing the same system that values women mainly for desirability and sexualization?
How do you personally distinguish between empowerment/self expression and catering to standards shaped by the male gaze? Or do you think that distinction itself is flawed?

I’m not even from the state, but this defeat feels so personal.
What scares me is how easily certain things go unaccounted for when someone is influential, how much someone can hurt others and still get away with it, even from a moral perspective.
As a woman, the people celebrating his win genuinely scare me. I know he’ll be celebrated regardless, while Trisha Krishnan has been called out for her insensitive approach, and Sangeetha has been dragged through the mud. Yet in the end, he still gets celebrated.
My point isn’t that they’re entirely right or wrong, there has been accountability on one side. But on the other hand, he’s still being celebrated. And with him representing the state, I feel a little more unsafe… and honestly scared about how easy it seems to get away with things.
I know it’s a new. I just wanted to say this because it’s been bothering me a lot.
