(<£100) Altering Bridesmaids Dresses

I took three bridesmaid dresses to a seamstress for alterations and was quoted £180 total. The alterations needed are:

  1. Shorten hem on 3 layers
  2. Shorten hem on 3 layers + take in the sides
  3. Shorten hem on 2 layers + shorten straps

The dresses are from Azazie and cost around £120 altogether, so I was honestly surprised that the alterations cost more than the dresses themselves.

I had no idea alterations for formal dresses could be this expensive. Is this a normal quote for bridesmaid dresses?!

The wedding is only a month away, so I’m starting to panic a bit 😅

P.s I’m based in NW London - if anyone has recommendations for a reliable and reasonably priced seamstress, I’d really appreciate it!

I feel like there’s a bunch of advice that sounds smart but isn't that impactful in reality.

Like I’m actually starting to doubt the whole “take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves” thing because I might just be overly obsessive about the pennies at this point.

Things like:

  • Constantly rebalancing calculations
  • Tracking every single expenses

I’ve tried sticking to all of these, but it is a tedious job without a clear payoff.

Any advice on something you dropped and didn’t regret?
