Licensed ABE (Agricultural & Biosystems Engineer) seeking advice on MS scholarships (ERDT) and Land & Water research
Hi everyone! I’m a new member here. I’m a Licensed Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer currently looking for advice on how to transition into graduate studies.
I am deeply passionate about Land and Water Conservation, but I’m currently stuck in a low-paying job that isn't related to my degree. Because of my financial situation, I cannot self-fund a Master’s degree.
I really want to apply for a scholarship like the ERDT (Engineering Research and Development for Technology), but I feel a bit lost on the "how-to" and have some anxieties. I struggled a lot financially and personally during college, and I wasn't the "top" student in terms of grades. I'm worried about asking my former professors for recommendations. Does your GPA matter more than your research potential for ERDT?
Despite my grades, I am very passionate about research. My undergraduate thesis on Land/Water was actually awarded Best Thesis. How can I best leverage this award to offset my average grades? For those who have been ERDT scholars, what does the timeline look like, and what are the "unspoken" tips for a successful application?
I’m really eager to contribute to the field of Agricultural Engineering through research. Any advice on the application process, finding a mentor, or other scholarship opportunities (local or international) would be life-changing.
Thank you so much!
