I’ve been posting my art to my profile page for a few years. I recently found out I was eligible for monetization. The content I post is 99% stills, sometimes with text, very rarely videos. I’ve got 1,800 followers and if I’m reading this right, I had 300K views last month.

Here’s the thing: I don’t care about the money. If I signed up for it, it’d mostly be out of curiousity and for laughs ala “check out the $0.35 I made last month” - I doubt I’d earn much (and if I did, I’d donate it to charity - I’m comfortably retired and I don’t want to deal with Social Security and tax hassles).

What concerns me is: if I opted in for this Content Monetization stuff, what does it look like to my followers? Is their experience going to change radically? Are they going to encounter ads spliced into my usual feed? Or is it something they wouldn’t even notice?

Thing is, it seems like it’s easy to opt in, but it sounds like it’s rough to *leave* the program - like: lose all followers. I know 1,800 isn’t much, but I never ask people to follow me, every one of them decided to follow on their own; that makes them special and I’d prefer not to lose them.

Thanks in advance for any insight!
