New house has no networking solution for my NAS

So I just moved house… at my old place I had my UGREEN DXP4800 plus plugged directly into my Wi-Fi router as the old place didn't have any wired Ethernet networking at all and it was a rental. New place is also a rental.

When we inspected the property I got a little excited because I noticed that there were Ethernet ports all throughout . I was like, "Yeah great, amazing, I can finally have a proper network solution and kind of explore networking a little more as a hobby. I'd also be able to plug in my NAS and have a wired Ethernet go into my computer for faster internet and faster connections to the NAS, win."

But when we finally moved in… Here in Australia we've had a nationwide fibre rollout initiative called NBN. As part of that they install a proprietary NBN box for the fiber to feed into. The fiber network comes into the NBN box then the box feeds into your network or WiFi router. The dumbass who installed NBN in my new rental decided it was a great idea to install it in the one bedroom in the home that had no Ethernet wiring at all. I spent a while trying to see if there was any network switch or all of the Ethernet ports that came out to see if I could still kind of hack a solution together but they've taped over the Ethernet ports that seem to feed into the office. The ports are in a cupboard and it actually looks like the cabinetry is covering up most of the ports anyway, tape or no tape. So the houses network wiring has essentially been rendered useless.

Now I'm stuck. I don't really have a way to get the NAS back online because the bedroom that the NBN box and Wi-Fi router are in is in use so I can’t really put a noisy server in there. My running plan is to perhaps look into getting some of those mesh network routers and just placing one downstairs here in the office and then plugging the NAS into that. It just seems like a little bit of a waste though because the bedroom that has the NBN and router is directly above the office. Although I guess the NAS doesn't need to be in the office… I would still, in an ideal world, like to have my PC and NAS both on the same wired network circuit.

I don't know, does anybody in here have any ideas or solutions?

Hey all, feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed, hoping for some guidance.

I'm looking at leasing a new Zeekr 7X Long Range. The car isn't due to arrive until early July so I think I have time to sort this out properly, but I'd really like to get it locked in soon so it's not hanging over me.

My employer hasn't done a novated lease before but has said they're happy to, so I'm not locked into any particular provider. The dealer referred me to Oly and actually kicked off that process with them on my behalf. I went ahead and accepted the Oly quote, and the signed Novation Agreement from my employer is currently sitting on my desk ready to send back. I haven't sent it yet though, and I haven't formally accepted the final novation lease offer either. The sale contract with the dealer is already signed.

After finding this sub I panicked a little, worried I hadn't shopped around enough before moving forward. So I requested a quote from LeaseLab to compare. Their consultant reassured me in his email that since I haven't accepted the final offer or returned the paperwork, I shouldn't be locked in just yet. That's eased my mind a bit but it's still nagging at me.

The main thing tripping me up is interest rates. From what I've read here, that seems to be the key comparison point, but neither quote actually includes the rate, which makes a proper apples to apples comparison difficult.

The other thing weighing on me is reviews. LeaseLab has strong Trustpilot reviews, while Oly's are noticeably worse. A few Oly reviews specifically mention that support and contact drop off significantly once the deal is done, which isn't a great sign for a multi-year arrangement.

I have a consult call booked with LeaseLab this afternoon. Keen for any thoughts on:

  1. Do these quotes look reasonable?
  2. What should I be asking my LeaseLab consultant on the call?
  3. Anything else I should be checking or watching out for?

Massively appreciate any input 🙏

(Oly did have like the same essay level of detail, just on their web portal rather than the PDF I screenshotted bellow)

Hey all!

I’ve just put down the deposit in my 7X long range (green with black and grey interior) and I’m now going through the fun, not so fun, exciting yet stressful sales process. I’m financing the car on a novated lease but I need to wait until my boss returns from travel before signing that paperwork so I luckily have some time before the lease company needs the final price on the vehicle (I think that’s how it works?)

The dealer’s delivery team called me today to offer all their delivery extras I can include in the vehicle but I’m not sure if it’s all sales BS or not… this is my first brand new car purchase so it’s all a little overwhelming. From what I’ve read ceramic coating and interior protection isn’t the worst idea but are the dealer’s offerings the right path to take with these or am I best to get them done post delivery. I also am not 100% sure if I can even do these protections post delivery with the car being ok a lease and all… (I feel like lease company’s make the whole ordeal unnecessarily confusing and complicated 😅)

Do y’all have any advice or opinions on what the dealership is quoting and offering? I already think I’ll pass on a dash-cam, holding out hope they update the car’s softwares to include a built in dash-cam feature. My sales BS radar is also sounding on the Schmick thing but I could be wrong.
