Hello, just looking for opinions on our situation.
Me and my partner are buying a home 5 hours way from where we currently live. We’ve gotten pre-approval from RBC based on our current income.
My partner will likely not be able to keep their job, but RBC says that’s not a problem and they won’t call their employer to ask during the approval process.
The only reason we’re hesitating is because we have a very long closing and we want to avoid having our employers finding out we’re moving before we want to tell them. Should we trust that the bank/underwriter won’t call his employer? They have their contact info via our employment letters.
For context, we are asking for a $300,000 mortgage and are putting almost 70 percent down payment on the house, so it’s definitely low risk which may be why they are saying they won’t call.
But everything I read online seems to say they will call because if you’re unemployed when you move that is a big risk for the bank.
Has anyone made a move like this and avoided a call to their employer to get approval?
