This is Reid. Reid is sad.

My spouse and I live in different states because we’re in grad school. Thankfully this is coming to an end soon, but Reid has been with me for a few months now and he seems really, really sad and he misses my spouse more than I do. Can yall send some good vibes his way?

I have PMG, and in December 2024 I finally started having focal aware seizures. At first we didn't know what they were (nor did we know I had PMG), but after an extended episode my spouse finally convinced me to go to urgent care to get checked out. After we did imaging and an EEG, we finally figured out what had been going on.

After trying (and failing due to rage) Keppra, I've been on 100mg 2x daily Vimpat for about 10 months and now 50mg 2x daily Briviact as well for about three months. My whole world is different. I no longer deal with the deja vu, brain fog, or get auras anymore. It's like I'm taking the pill from Limitless since my seizures are under control. I'm in the process of publishing an article in the top journal in my field after struggling for so long. My neurologist told me on my last visit that I've probably had small seizures my whole life and is the reason I would randomly struggle.

I know I got incredibly lucky that my medication got figured out so quickly, my seizures were incredibly mild, and are now under control. For those of you struggling, I'm sorry and I hope you can get under control soon.

Here's to hoping for another year seizure free.
