Just bought my first camera: Fujifilm X-T30 III + Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 — good choice?

I just bought my first camera and I’d love some feedback from people with more experience.

I ended up getting:

- Fujifilm X-T30 III

- Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary

I’m coming from using only a phone before, so this is my first real camera setup.

My main use will probably be travel, day trips, everyday photos, and sometimes a bit of casual video. What I was looking for most was something simple, enjoyable to use, and capable of giving me nice-looking photos without needing heavy editing.

Do you think this was a good first choice?

Also, I’d appreciate any beginner advice:

- things I should learn first

- useful settings to start with

- SD card recommendations

- accessories that are actually worth buying

- common beginner mistakes to avoid

Thanks.

First camera

I’m trying to decide on my first camera and would love some advice from people with more experience.

I’ve never owned a camera before, so I’m looking for something beginner-friendly for both photos and video. My main use would be travel, day trips, and occasionally recording myself playing drums.

Right now I’m considering these options:

- Canon EOS R50

- Sony A6400 with the standard kit lens

- Sony A7 III with a 28-70mm lens

From a beginner point of view, which one would make the most sense?

I’m especially wondering whether the A7 III is really worth the extra cost for a first camera, or if APS-C options like the R50 or A6400 would be the smarter choice.

I’d really appreciate opinions on ease of use, value for money, lens options, and whether full frame is actually worth it for someone just starting out.

Advice for the first camera

I currently use an iPhone 15 Pro Max and I’m happy with it, but I’d like to get into digital photography and buy my first camera that can handle both photos and video.

I’ve never owned a camera before, so this would be my first one. I wouldn’t use it heavily or professionally, mostly for travel, day trips, and occasionally recording myself playing drums in my rehearsal space.

These are the models I’ve been looking at:

  1. Canon EOS R50

  2. Canon EOS R10

  3. Sony ZV-E10 II

  4. Nikon Z50 II

I asked ChatGPT and it mainly recommended the Canon EOS R50 as a beginner-friendly option, but I’d like to hear real opinions from people who actually know cameras or have used these models.

Which one would you recommend for a complete beginner?

What are the main pros and cons of each?

And is buying used worth it, or would you recommend buying new for a first camera?

If buying used is a good option, what should I check before buying?

Thanks.
