Ebay Fakes: Akoni Infinity Edition

Ebay Fakes: Akoni Infinity Edition

I set an ebay alert for Akoni Infinity: a few weeks back it tripped. The seller had loads of them, NIB, for only$160.

I knew it wasn't real, but I messaged the seller anyway. They assured me these were "GENUINE AKONI". With that promise given - and making sure ebay buyer protection was in effect - I decided to see what showed up.

And I have to say - they are obviously not Titanium, and its obviously not the full Akoni Packaging. The etched logo isn't the Akoni logotype. But if you didn't know better, these might fool you. There's a lot of attention to detail here.

And then, bizarrely, there's a lack of follow through, where they skimped on details of the shields and rims. Like why - if you are going to go to this much trouble to make a replica - ignore signature details?

I filed a complaint with ebay showing the differences - and the seller didn't contest. I have my refund.

Anyway, thought the ee crew might enjoy seeing what the fake Akoni's look like.

Just got my updated RX after 18mo and I think it's different enough to justify a new pair.

Currently splitting time between 3 different dailies:

DITA Haliod with photochromic grey for work/teams calls - no reflection.
LGR Reunion Metal Explorer with photochromic blue mirror - love these but that blue reflection is brutal on video calls
Akoni Eris with photochromic silver mirror - these are by far my favorite frames but they are a touch narrow for me. And the mirror makes them unusable on video calls.

My thing seems to be mechanical detail, side shields, and not being afraid to run sunglass frames for optical dailies. Also love the mirror look in the sun. My current obsession is the Infinity - admittedly similar to the Eris. Either in the silver/grey or the black/green tortoise. Will probably get one of those- but I'm also looking at other options:

Capote Walking Dreams seems the closest thing to the Eris/Infinity vibe. Really cool.
Matsuda has some cool stuff, of course. I really like the 2903H. Also some of the other shielded models.
Tavat Shielded Soupcans.
La Petite Lunette Rouge has some fun stuff..
JMM Livingston looks really slick but that's a lot of $$$

What haven't I considered? Show me what I missed!

I spent awhile trying to get one of the AI's to help me dig but nothing was better than crawling the archives of this sub.

Lifelong fingertip trackball user coming home after moving to vertical mice for a few years. Now plan to keep both on the desktop.

I bought a Huge+. Ball felt a little lightweight to me, so I found a snooker training cue to use. It works, but it isn't that much heavier than stock. I've been thinking about getting a 52mm steel ball bearing and depolishing it one way or another for optical traction.

Asking the basilisk, it says I'm not the only one to consider this. It also says I'm likely to think it's TOO heavy - and that the bearings might wear super fast. Has anyone tried it personally? I'd like to hear stories.

Thanks for your input - literally!
