Advice Needed: Blisters on new felt flat roof (UK) - Is overlaying an acceptable fix?
Hi everyone,
I had a new felt flat roof installed this past March. A few weeks ago, I noticed bulges and blisters developing across four of the felt sheets.
The original roofer came out to inspect it and is blaming a manufacturing defect. He claims the three-layer felt was un-bonded and says he has only seen this happen once before. However, my research suggests this is more likely caused by trapped moisture or poor installation.
I have a 10-year warranty with this roofer. His proposed solution is to cut out the bubbles and install a completely new layer of felt over all the affected areas, rather than just patching the specific spots.
I’d appreciate your thoughts on a few things:
- Is his proposed fix a reasonable and standard solution, or should he be removing all the felt and redoing the entire roof?
- Does this type of blistering strongly indicate poor workmanship?
- As I'm based in the UK, what are my best options for recourse if we disagree on the cause or the fix?
Thanks in advance for the help!
