Self Sponsored Apprenticeship
Hello, I am a registered first year automotive apprentice. I currently have around 2500 hours signed in my blue book and my boss is playing games about sending me to school. She has pushed back the date multiple times and keeps “forgetting” to sign me up for school. I finally talked to the general manager about it and my company is finally going to send me to school for winter 2027 but the issue is my boss wants me to sign a contract agreeing to finish the apprenticeship through them and agreeing to work for them a year after my apprenticeship to pay back the company for sponsoring me.
But after this screw around I don’t wanna work for this company anymore. Especially because I discovered my boss lied to the general manager and said I had no interest in an apprenticeship and didn’t have my blue book (she signed my sponsorship papers so i could get it).
Anyways I have looked at other jobs but everywhere seems to want me to do half a year or more of lube stuff before they send me to school. I have over three years of lube experience and I’m sick of it and desperately need a wage increase. I’m at the point where I want to just self sponsor myself and go to school for this fall and then get hired somewhere else as a second or third year apprentice. I am wondering if anyone has done anything similar and what does that look like? What is the process?
