Looking into getting a full size SUV for a few reasons. I live in Buffalo NY, winters are brutal. Don't wanna keep driving my 19 C43 AMG in the snow and ruin it. I used to have a 2001 Crv for this reason but I just sold it to buy something bigger. I Need a bigger suv because my band tours and we need the space for our gear (and us). Plus me and the Mrs go camping often.

Tahoe is perfect, right??

Now, I know the GMT800 is vastly superior and more reliable in every way. But let me tell you, everyone knows that so their prices are ridiculous. Can't find a decent one under 200k miles for under $8k by me. They are either rot boxes, or have 255k miles or both. And they still want too much money. So I started looking into some newer ones. Found this super clean southern PA 2007 tahoe.

Here's the FB description for it:

2007 Chevy Tahoe LTZ, 5.3L, 4X4,flex fuel, 164k miles. 5500 obo or trade. Runs good, shifts good, 4WD works. No rust as shown. One dent as shown. Have had it for about a year and a half. Need a truck or something I can haul with. Previous owner put new front and rear air ride system including compressor. Thermostat ,Alternator, fuel pump, catalytic converter, front hub/wheel bearings, cv shafts has been replaced and just put new all-aluminum radiator. AC not blowing cold but just may need recharged cause did work. May need ball joint. Cracked dash. Some random signs of age, worn center console, small tare in driver seat, etc nothing major. Asking $5500 or best offer. Very open to trades. Would really like a Chevy Avalanche or Extended Cab/Dual cab truck. No cars unless it’s a jeep with a trailer

Seller also claims he did the afm delete. He's got no proof of any of the service he's mentioned.

But he seems like a straight shooter. He's a grandpa with good ratings as a seller. But I still don't fully trust any seller.

I'll be honest, I don't want to pay a penny over $4.5k for this truck. That's my max offer. He seems receptive to it. He's going to replace the tie rod (he clarified that's the issue, not the ball joint). He also says he'll meet me halfway to look at the truck (he's about 4 hours from me - gotta go south to avoid the rot in Buffalo).

Are these things just absolute junk? Can't find any good info about it. All the discourse is split down the middle. They are either bullet proof or pure garbage. If I get this thing at $4.5k, is that worth it? Or am I over paying? Should I just continue my search for a unicorn sub $5k gmt800?

Potentially trading my clapped out 03 4Runner for this 02 GMC Safari AWD with 176k miles. He's asking $2.5k

I've got a huge soft spot for these things. My first ever car was an 04 blazer. I want a band van to tour in and I want a van my dogs can fit in and go camping, etc. don't care if it's pretty or nice, in fact, I prefer a beater. this fits the bill perfectly. And the dude is willing to take my 4runner that needs lots of work for it, no extra cash.

How's the frame looking? I'm in Buffalo. Every car just rots out. But he sent me these pics today and it doesn't look too bad. But the frame on my 4runner is shot, so I'm just gunshy. What do we think? I'm getting rid of the 4runner either way. Either selling it for around $2k or trading it for another beater for around $2k.

This will not be my daily. I've got a 2019 c43 AMG that I daily. I'll probably drive it very seldomly in fact. Maybe 3k a year. I want a couple years out of her. Thats it. Just don't want a huge money pit
