Partial first chapter first draft, fantasy/YA

I've been writing this "first draft" of my first chapter but something feels off about it. I either feel that something is missing and the pacing is too fast or it's something else. Id like to know how others feel about it.

This is one of the first things I've written that I can say I don't hate. This short story is inspired by Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. I know it's not great, but I'd like to know what better I can do with it.

I really only did this as a writing exercise, so what do you think?

My story is mostly going to be in 3rd person omniscient and I want to switch between two different characters' perspectives. I mostly want to do this when they're both doing things in separate places at the same time. One of the characters is more focused on, the other helps the MC but isnt always the main focus. My question is how would I go about it?

The switch won't happen very often, but i think thats the best way to go about learning about both of the characters without both of them being in the same scene and learning it directly from each other.
