Having used Sony’s WH-1000XM5 for the past two years, I was never able to appreciate their SQ, the bass wasn’t overwhelming but definitely drowned a lot of details in the tracks. In hopes for an upgrade, I went and tried on the AirPods Max 2 a few days back and was impressed with the general sound signature they seemed to be targeting but the audio felt ever so synthetic to my ears, the sound reproduction felt a little unnatural and I held off on the trigger with them.

Soon after I encountered the HDB 630 being featured in multiple reviews and after going through them and some Reddit threads, I am almost convinced that these would serve my purpose of moving around the house while enjoying my library at the best possible quality except for some repeated mentions of issues people have had with them. I would deeply appreciate any input on these:

  1. Is the low volume level an issue consistent with a lot of users? I will be pairing my set with iOS/macOS and I’ve read about too many people suffering from low volume even when maxed out after tweaking the PEQ.

  2. I have only recently transitioned from the love for V-shaped signatures to more balanced ones and I am hoping these sit in between the two while leaning towards more neutral tone of course.

  3. Will the jump in SQ be noticeable from XM5/AirPods Max? Since I haven’t got a store around my city where I can try these on, I would love to know where the HDB 630s stand relative to those two.

TLDR : Please help me pull the trigger on this pair, I have three little concerns with the infamous low volume issue, some feedback on the sound signature and how good they are in comparison to XM5/APM2.
