"Oh, you don't like X thing? That means you're MAGA" is what I mean.
I was called right wing because I said the Boomers in New Vegas aren't based on baby boomers. Citing how the game came out in 2010, years before boomer culture was criticized as it is, and how most comparisons are surface level. I was met with fans telling me I was wrong cuz "boomers = boomers" and told "New Vegas is political and...fairly left leaning. Does that bother you?". Sure, they never said it verbatim, but tell me that isn't implying I'm right wing.
I've had friends call me MAGA because I don't care for Taylor Swift's music. Because since Trump doesn't like her, and I don't, that connection is there.
Hell, I've been called a trump supporter solely for saying the FDA says aspartame (the sweetener used in diet coke) is safe to consume. I can see a vague connection there, but even then, citing the FDA isn't an endorsement of the current government.
I get it, you want to out the bad guys (yes, MAGA are the bad guys, don't believe otherwise). But some try way too hard and believe everything is some dog whistle. Hell even now I know someone is going to argue I have to be MAGA because "everyone else seems to say you are, hmmmm." And using the fact I get defensive as proof, because apparently I shouldn't be offended I'm being called a Nazi....
Edit: I know the right does it too. I just don't care what they think of me as much. This wasn't a "liberals bad" post, sorry if it gave that impression.
