Been dialing in my hoop shoe rotation based on how I actually play + what my body tolerates (mid-40s, knees/back matter now). Wanted to share the logic in case it helps someone else.

🧠 Core realization

I don’t perform best in “bouncy” setups.

What works for me:

•	controlled compression (not springy)

•	stable base when planting

•	forefoot “sit + hold” when loading into jumpers

That lens basically sorted every shoe into:

•	✔ works for me

•	⚠ usable but not ideal

•	❌ doesn’t fit my game

🏠 HOME (known courts)

Indoor (mostly shooting)

•	Kobe 3 Protro → best rhythm / supported feel

•	Kai 1 → stability + consistency when not 100%

•	AE1 (PowerStep) → support / fatigue / joint-friendly

•	JB3 → traction option / when I want max bite

👉 Logic:

•	Kobe = feel

•	Kai = control

•	AE1 = protection

•	JB3 = traction security

Outdoor (shooting only)

•	BBV2 → best “sit + hold” forefoot

•	Harden 6 → best compression + joint protection

•	Kai 1 → stability fallback

•	WOW 808 5 → lighter, low-to-ground option for skill work

👉 Outdoor = impact + repetition → need protection + control

Honorable mention:

•	New Balance Two WXY v3 → great balance of durability, court feel, and stable base for outdoor shooting

⚠️ SHOES I TRIED (WHY THEY DIDN’T FULLY STICK)

“Too bouncy / reactive”

•	GT Jump

👉 Felt:

•	springy

•	inconsistent base

•	harder to repeat my shot

“Too smooth / not enough anchor”

•	KD 15

•	LeBron 20

👉 Felt:

•	good overall

•	but lacked that forefoot dig-in feeling

•	less consistent on pull-ups

“Good but not ideal for my body”

•	Harden 9

👉 Issues:

•	toe pinch on hard stops

•	less forefoot protection

•	traction inconsistent on dust

“Neutral but not enough ‘sit + hold’”

•	Dame 9

👉 Pros:

•	comfortable

•	solid traction

•	good all-around performance

👉 Cons for me:

•	more neutral cushion feel

•	lacked that forefoot pocket / compression feel I prefer

•	didn’t give me the same shooting confidence as BBV2 or Harden 6

“Close… but not quite the same feel”

•	BBV3

👉 Pros:

•	great cushioning

•	solid overall performance

👉 Cons for me:

•	slightly higher / softer feeling

•	less of that deep forefoot pocket

•	didn’t give me the same “sit and hold” confidence as BBV2 when loading into shots

“Good but not quite my ideal feel”

•	All Pro Nitro

👉 Pros:

•	great traction

•	solid all-around performance

👉 Cons for me:

•	more responsive than I prefer

•	not enough “sit and hold” in the forefoot

•	felt slightly more “on top” than “in” the shoe

🧠 KEY TAKEAWAYS

•	Traction reliability > everything on unknown courts

•	Cushion should control movement, not amplify it

•	Stability matters more than bounce for shooting consistency

•	Insoles help—but the shoe’s base matters more

🔥 FINAL THOUGHT

Instead of chasing the “best shoe,” I built:

a rotation where every shoe has a specific job

That’s made a bigger difference than any single model.

Curious if anyone else prefers that “sit and hold” forefoot feel over bounce?
