What Makes One So Great?
One should be recognized as Metallica's best song, and it absolutely would be if it wasn't shrouded by the controversy. But, what is it that makes it so great?
Is it the escapism, the emotional journey through the unbelievably bleak existence?
Is it the haunting intro with the heart breaking solo?
Is it the emotional power from James Hetfield's vocals?
Is it the epic framing of the song on drums, with the accents and double kicks?
It is the two face-melting, mind-bending leads in the final act?
Or, is it the all-conquering feeling of hope the final beat leaves you with?
I personally think it's all of these things.
