My fellow Kansans. I bought a vehicle, I paid the sellers lien off directly to the financial institution, I’m waiting on the lien release. Vehicle and sellers title is a Missouri title that shows the lien. The lien holding financial institutions not local so I have to wait for it to be mailed to me.
I have the signed title, bill of sale, vehicle & keys. Can I go to the dmv and get a 60 day temp tag while I wait another 2 weeks for the official lien release to be mailed to me from the sellers financial institution?
I know I’ll need to get a vin inspection, for the 60 day temp tag, do I have to get the vin inspected first by the highway patrol or can I wait to do that when I go to get my permanent tag?
My hopeful plan is
- Get temp tag immediately from dmv
- Drive the vehicle
- Wait for the lien release to be mailed to me
- Once I receive the lien release, take it & signed title to KHP for vin inspection
- Go to dmv and give inspection & title papers to the employee and order my personalized plate that I want.
Is this correct or is my plan flawed?
