"One of the most exciting restorations of this year, or any other year, comes to New York this Sunday, May 3rd, with a rare screening of Frank Perry’s searing and lyrical 1969 teen drama Last Summer at the Paris Theater. I hesitate to call it a 'lost masterpiece' simply because some versions have circulated in rough dupes over the years. There has been no DVD or Blu-ray release, until now: Warner Archive will finally put it out on home video later this year, and it has long been one of the most requested titles in their catalogue. An old 16mm print found in Australia has also done the rounds. So maybe we can say the film was 'spiritually lost,' simply because such a lovely work deserves to be seen in proper conditions and it almost never has been..."
