Friend got permanently banned for a sarcastic comment because of confusion caused by suggested subs
A friend of mine got permanently banned for a sarcastic comment he made. As he describes it, he saw a post with a chaotically developed urban area and thought it was a post from his active ubreddit - r/shittyskylines. But apparently it was from another serios subreddit. The post asked what is the solution to the chaotic urban development and he commented "hydrogen bomb", as this is a trending meme currently and is in the spirit of the sub he thought he is commenting on. The comment was not adressed st anyone particularly, it was obviously a joke, however, reddit algorithms didn't think so. It seems a bit harsh considering that again, obviously there was no ill-intent, it was just a joke, his only mistake is that he didn't double-check the subreddit. Perhaps suggesting serious subreddits to someone who's mostly in non-serious subreddits isn't the best idea. The appeal form is too short to explain the situation, regardless, it didn't help. His account had 70k karma, he was active in many subreddits. He lost not only the account but also the ability to create a new account, which again, seems a bit harsh considering it was just a misplaced joke, and especially considering the type of content reddit does allow.
And YES I am talking about a friend, a separate person, not a "friend".
