I live in Massachusetts and one thing I notice about people here is that in casual conversation they’ll oftentimes abbreviate the state as “Mass.” Seeing as Massachusetts and Mississippi have similar syllabic structures (owing to their shared history as indigenous words), do people in Mississippi similarly refer to the state as “Miss?”

Obviously Ole Miss is a flagship university, but is “Miss” also used in common conversation?
