city to triathlon conversion

I have had an idea and I need you to tell me it's a bad one. I want to get into Triathlon, but I don't want to get a triathlon bike or even a road bike for everyday use. I prefer the city-bike style upright seat for most daily cycling around the city. I am thinking I could get a road bike, but swap out the handlebars for the big swept back upright ones (and swap the seat for something comfier). then, when I want to use the bike for a race or fitness, I can swapt he seat and handlebars back.

Would this work? In my head I can just loosen everything on the handlebars with an allen key, slide them off one, and reattach them to the other without too much fuss. If it would work, any ideas what kind of bike and handlebars would be good for this insane idea?
