Hey all. We're looking to do some fun things this year I think a lot of ram owners will be stoked about.
For a little background Im looking to pick up a 4th gen 1500 and am having a hard time deciding. I live in rural mn and work remote (obviously) Mostly my drives are into town, about 15 miles, or to the home improvement store about 65 miles away. Then we have the occasional drive to the cities to see family which is 300 miles, but normally we take the durango for those trips.
For what were looking to do, I think i want a 14-18, since they have the 5 link rear and the zf 8 speed. I was in between a ram and a silverado of the same year range but I had one of those and the trans blew at 120k, i KNOW theyre a weak point on those trucks and would prefer to avoid that.
Onto the truck itself, I need a crew cab, and a 6'4" bed, 4x4 and not rusty since itll be a media truck.
It seems like thats a hard combo to find in a gasser, but I see these Ecodiesels all over the place (maybe thats a bad sign)
I had a canyon duramax and it was fun but had diesel quirks. It was great for MPGs on my long trips, but kind of a pain with the DPF regens on my short trips.
Im also seeing those deleted quite often. We dont have emissions here, so that wouldnt be an issue, but are they as unreliable as people make them seem? Does the delete flip the script? I know angry people are the loudest but want to know what the real world consensus is. IVe done research but keep coming down to a coin flip.
I appreciate any insight you can give, Ive been a chebby guy my whole life, but ready to try something new (as my 2013 2500 hd sits dead in the driveway
