After 40 years, I’m starting HRT at 49
Hi everyone,
I’m 49 and just starting my transition after over 40 years of wanting to do this. I’m currently on spironolactone and waiting to start estrogen once my labs are fully cleared. I’m excited, but also honestly a little scared about starting HRT at my age and what changes I can realistically expect.
I’m trying to get ahead of things and build a routine that actually helps with both physical changes and presentation, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the information out there.
My main concerns right now are:
-thinning/receding scalp hair
-dark facial hair and beard shadow (very visible even after shaving)
-sensitive skin (hair removal creams irritate me)
-general feminizing beauty/health routine as I start HRT
I’ve just been prescribed finasteride and I’m looking into minoxidil and laser hair removal, but I’d really love to hear what has actually worked for others in terms of:
-skincare routines during early transition
-vitamins/supplements that helped (if any)
-hair regrowth or slowing loss
-managing facial hair shadow
-anything that helped you feel more confident day to day
Especially from anyone who started HRT later in life… I’d really appreciate real-world experiences and what made the biggest difference for you.
Thank you
Bella 💜
