2019 Toyota Corolla 1.8 VVT-h Design (UK)

Hi,

I’m considering getting a 2019 Toyota Corolla 1.8 VVT-i Design priced at £13k with 70k miles from a Toyota Approved dealership, and I wanted to hear other people’s opinions.

The main reason for purchasing a car is that my partner and I are expecting our first child. This would also be our first car purchase in the UK.

Up until now, we haven’t really needed a car because we live in the city centre(West Midlands) and have done all our commuting on foot or by public transport.

We mainly plan to use the car for social and family purposes only — doctor visits, future kid activities, grocery runs, and perhaps local day trips. At this point, I won’t need a car for commuting to work.

A few questions below:

  • We’ve both held our licences for 7 years with no offences or claims, and our insurance quote came to around £1,050 per year (West Midlands, city centre location). Is this expensive for two people on the policy? Is this a normal price for first-time car insurance in the UK? Would this likely go down at renewal if we make no claims?
  • Any general information, tips or/and tricks with this particular model? Apart from being a boring and dull taxi car...
  • Does Reddit think this car is expensive for mainly social use only? I don’t think we’d do more than 8k miles per year unless we move out of the city centre which is also an option.
  • Is there anything in particular we should pay extra attention to during the purchase process with this car in particular?

Thanks in advance!
