Hello!

We already received our tax refund so it was a surprise to us when we received a letter in the mail from the IRS. It is asking to provide backup documentation(w-2, w-2g, 1099-r, etc) for line 27a on 1040 which is the earned income credit line.

What documentation do I actually need for this? The only information I can really find is that we would need to provide proof of income(again), our social security numbers, and proof our child is related to us and lived with us more than half of the year. But there is no document that I have that specifically says the number that is on line 27a.
