Hi! I’m meeting with my oncologist tomorrow and need help figuring out how to choose between watch & wait vs treatment because this is what we most likely are going to discuss. I don’t have an official staging for my follicular lymphoma yet but based on biopsy it’s grade 1 or 2 and based on PET it’s Deauville score 5. My biggest and the most active node (2.7 cm, SUV max 4.5) is near the pancreas and there are other active nodes in my abdomen and smaller ones all the way up to my neck. Bones and organs are likely not involved. My most prominent symptom has been weight loss, but it stabilized a month ago once I started taking protein and eating meat. I also can feel my biggest node sometimes, kind of pressure and discomfort/pain in that area, and sometimes a burning sensation where other nodes are, but really nothing extraordinary. While my diagnosis process was dragging on, I was super worried and adamant to start treatment asap. I also thought about asking my oncologist for a referral to participate in the mosunetuzumab clinical trial. Then I started realizing that watch & wait can be actually okay. I understand that I have to listen to the doctor, but I think it’s still up to me to decide how I want to proceed. If I choose to do the treatment now, I have to start soon because my busiest months at work are September to mid-December, I can’t be on leave and can’t go remote. I’m wondering what criteria indicate the necessity and the timing of treatment.
