I have an early 2000s Mercury 2 stroke 25hp on my tender. Spent the Winter in the Florida Keys and am now back in New England for the Summer. For the entire time I was in the Keys, I had to use the primer bulb every time I started the engine and sometimes to keep it running for the first 100ish feet underway. I planned to address it when I got back to New England since it never stranded me, the primer bulb is easy to reach from my helm, and I have access to a shop in New England. Now that I’m back, it runs normally. Water temps are substantially colder now, but air temperatures have plenty of overlap with what I had in the Keys. Non-ethanol vs E10 made no difference in Florida. Any ideas on why this happened?
