Just to lay some things out, I do not intend to take off my hijab or go against any known rulings. It's just that my family has these specific conditions on top of the 8 we already have. I have tried to find something about this on islamic websites but they don't touch up on it it seems.
Here's what they say:
- The outer garment must be of one-stitch: shoulder to your ankle, opaque, baggy, all the requirements. An example of this is the abaya or one-piece jilbab. Headscarf may be of the same/separate piece of cloth.
- You may not wear clothing on top of the garment to layer, even if it is over-sized. This includes maxi skirts, shirts, cardigans, etc. coats can be worm if necessary.
- Open abayas do not count. they are not stitched at the front, even if you wear baggy clothes beneath.
This also conflicts with different parts of life in my opinion, such as a female doctor having to wear scrubs and be bare below the elbow in the operating room with other doctors, possibly male, and when she leaves, there will be non-mahrams around. What about other workplaces that don't allow ankle-length clothing for safety reasons?
Above, I have included images of what I am NOT allowed to wear.
I don't want to go out wearing jeans and a hoodie. I just want a little more flexibility like being able to layer clothing. These rules means if i wear maxi skirts paired with oversized shirts, or an almost ankle-length dress, with a shirt underneath to compensate for the length, will not meet the conditions of hijab.
Jazakallah for any advice. Please don't mind my tone - I am aware that I sound fully opposed to this.
