Hello, I’m writing this post to ask for help with an OBS-related issue.

First, here are my PC specs:

  • GPU: RTX 5060
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 (6-core)
  • RAM: 16GB
  • OBS version: Latest
  • Monitor: 4K

Here are my current OBS settings:

  • Video Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC HEVC
  • Rate Control: CQP
  • CQ Level: 20
  • Keyframe Interval: 1 second
  • Preset: P4 (Medium Quality)
  • Tuning: High Quality
  • Multipass Mode: Single Pass
  • B-frames: 1
  • Base (Canvas) Resolution: 4K
  • Output (Scaled) Resolution: 1920×1080
  • Downscale Filter: Area
  • FPS: 60

I’ve already tried changing a lot of different settings and testing various combinations, but nothing has solved the issue.

The main problem is this:
When I record at 1080p (downscaled from 4K), the video stutters badly. In OBS stats, I see:

  • Skipped frames due to rendering lag: 347 / 94,628 (0.4%)
  • Skipped frames due to encoding lag: 357 / 54,019 (0.7%)

I mainly record Minecraft videos with OBS, and I also noticed a strange issue where red outlines appear around items. However, this only happens when I play the video using the default Windows Media Player. If I upload the video somewhere else or capture it, the issue disappears. If anyone knows why this happens, I’d appreciate your input.

The biggest issue is still the stuttering. Interestingly, when I record in 4K (without downscaling), the stuttering is slightly less noticeable. I’m not sure if that’s a useful clue.

For troubleshooting, here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Running OBS as administrator
  • Installing older versions of OBS
  • Checking PC component temperatures
  • Testing many different settings one by one
  • Formatting/resetting my PC
  • Reinstalling OBS
  • Asking for help in other OBS communities
  • And more

I’ve had this PC for about 4 months, and this problem has been really frustrating. I’ve searched everywhere, tried other people’s solutions, and changed many settings, but nothing worked. I even reset my PC today, and the issue is still there.

At this point, I’m wondering if I need to replace my computer…

If you need any additional information, please let me know in the comments. I’d really appreciate any help.

Hi, I have a question about finding Nether Fortresses in Minecraft speedrunning.

Right now, I’m using the standard pie chart method — checking the chunk distance, then moving one chunk at a time in the cardinal directions to figure out where the fortress is. But this feels really slow, and since it only gives me one direction at a time, I often have to recheck multiple times if it’s diagonal or hidden, which wastes a lot of time.

What I’ve noticed from top speedrunners is that they don’t seem to do this at all. They just throw a pearl and somehow head straight toward a fortress almost every time. It honestly looks like they’re not even checking anything.

The only thing I noticed is that sometimes they briefly open the pie chart while going to the bastion, but I don’t understand how they use that to find the fortress.

How are they actually locating fortresses so quickly?

Hi, I’ve recently gotten really into Minecraft speedrunning and have been practicing for about 4 days now. My current PB is 40 minutes (I actually entered the End at 20 minutes, but things kind of fell apart after that lol).

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of top runners, and every time I do, I get this urge to hit sub-10 myself. I know they’ve put in years of practice and that’s why they’re so good, but at the same time I keep wishing I could improve really fast, like overnight.

So I guess what I’m wondering is—am I on the right track? Is it normal for improvement to feel this slow?

Right now I’ve memorized all bastion routes and I understand the full process up to killing the Ender Dragon, mostly from watching a lot of runs. My goal is sub-15, but I’m not sure how long that usually takes to achieve.

It just feels like I’m not improving much, and everyone else seems insanely good. It’s honestly really impressive.
