Is Tamil Nadu witnessing the beginning of a different governance model under Vijay?
In just the last 48 hours, three decisions have sparked major discussion:
- Reports say the government has moved to stop the long-criticised “party fund” culture linked to building approvals and permits. (The Times of India)
- The government is considering banning liquor sales for anyone under 21 years old as part of stricter TASMAC reforms. (The Times of India)
- The ₹1000 women's assistance scheme is reportedly continuing without interruption despite the change in government. (Facebook)
What’s interesting is that these moves combine three very different political signals:
- anti-corruption messaging,
- social conservatism on alcohol,
- and continuation of welfare politics.
Usually, new governments either remove previous schemes completely or focus only on symbolism during the first few weeks.
But TVK seems to be trying a mix of welfare continuity + administrative reforms + image-building at the same time.
Too early to judge, obviously.
But compared to how most people expected a “celebrity government” to function, the first few days have been politically more calculated than many predicted.
Curious how people here see it:
actual governance shift or just smart optics so far?
