How good are you remembering students?

Personally, I do remember most. If I see a face, I’ll most likely remember.

Once in a while I’ll get a brave soul say “I remember you.” And I’ll have NOOOO IDEA who they are, what grade level, or who is their teacher. So I am kind ofc, but inside I’m uncomfortable because my brain wants to figure it out. Lol

And they are usually some really kind kids who are happy to see me.

A lot of kids seem to remember me though! I remember once I subbed for a first grade class beginning of year, and I didn’t see them until many months later and was shocked when a group from that class remembered me right away! That’s always a small, but big moment during all the craziness.

I know y’all can relate to this! 🤣

I got reported by some supervisor for misconduct. That, apparently I yelled at some students. Honestly, the only time I projected my Voice was when students were way too far from a designated area.

However, managing student movement in a safety context is part of the job. Volume adjustments happen in real classrooms. That alone isn’t misconduct. If you have gotten negative feedback, how did you handle it? I did think it was necessary for me to explain the contacts and I’m not trying to make it a thing. I just rather not go to that school.

For me it’s just a coincidence, but it is 2nd graders!!! I have a friend who had the same struggle with they age group! What’s up with that? I’d expect second grade to be better and I like that grade. Maybe because I loved my second grade teacher and that time period. However, adult me can’t stand them. No hard feelings, but it’s just been a pattern for me.

I sub through Frontline and had a question about teacher requests.

A teacher recently reached out asking me to sub for them, and I said I’m open to it. But instead of just putting the request through Frontline, they asked me to call them to coordinate.

From my understanding, teachers can just submit a request through the system and the sub can accept it—no extra steps needed.

Is there a reason a teacher would want to handle it outside of Frontline? Are there limitations or situations where a phone call is necessary?

Just trying to understand how this typically works.

I’ve taught first grade with no training and I’ve also subbed. Both are hard in different ways—teaching was draining, subbing feels like less responsibility but still challenging.

I’m going to be honest: almost every teacher I’ve met in my district seems miserable and caught up in petty drama. That’s just been my experience. This job asks a lot of you, so I was shocked to learn many teachers had too much time for drama and beef with one another.

At the same time, I genuinely love kids. Some of them are amazing, but some will completely drain you. And I don’t think it’s okay to feel this drained from a job.

So I’m asking straight up—are you actually happy doing this long-term? Thank you advance if you share your journey as a teacher. What’s it been like for you? How are YOU?
