Every once in a while I’ll have songs from my past life pop into my head and get stuck there. Then I find myself in a state of shock and disbelief that these lyrics used to seem normal to me. “There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins, and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.”
- A fountain FULL of BLOOD… in no other setting would that seem okay or normal or positive unless it was clear satire.
- How convenient that believing “correctly” absolves you of wrongdoing. In reality, the ramifications of our actions have real lasting impact on people’s lives, and this was only ever a way to make us feel okay about ourselves without taking real responsibility for hurt we’ve caused.
