Forgot gypsum and my casing layer is made and ready. Can I add it in now without sterilizing or is there a fast sterilization process?

To specify; this is for a cake on its second flush.

I used the 50/50 tek, 50% peat 50% verm and 1 tsp hydrated lime per cup of peat. I have gypsum I forgot to add; it’s been in a sealed bag and I’ve only opened it one time a couple months ago when I made my substrate.

I need to add this casing layering today, and ideally would like to add gypsum. Can I skip sterilizing since I only opened it once or is that too risky? I added boiled distilled water to the dry mix and intentionally made it too moist, then added to PC to sterilize since that reduces moisture. Then this morning I checked and it’s perfect field capacity. Is there a quick way to sterilize? Should I not sterilize? Or skip gypsum altogether? Thank you

[technique] casing, forgot to add gypsum. What is the safest and relatively quickest way to add it?

[gourmet] anybody ever grown Blue Pulaski Mushrooms? And do you know where to get LC’s for these? Just to clarify; I’m asking about a gourmet/culinary and totally legal mushroom. (Want to avoid getting kicked out of here(

So I read this article and was intrigued

https://wccannabis.cc/blue-pulaski-mushrooms-a-complete-guide-to-this-rare-fungi/

Also side note, I was surprised that website specifically did a blog post on a gourmet mushroom given the name. lol

Anyways, I digress. this mushroom looks so cool and probably tastes awesome. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. I have a good chunk of growing experience, so even if it’s harder than normal I’d still like to give it a good shot. TY

Cross pollination? Accidental smash tek?

Alright,

So I got 6 shoeboxes in a Martha’s tent. I am growing ochras so they require more FAE Which is why I got it all in a tent. So I can fan the ochra cakes plenty without losing humidity due to humidity in tent in being 80-90%.

Anyways recently had an ochra cake and a golden teacher cake die. So now I have 4 cakes. I have not dunked a GT bin yet, but I had all 3 ochra bins produce and have dunked em. This is one of the ochra bins. It’s 100% ochra and not me mixing up bin cuz I never dunked a GT bin. Anyways, the shrooms growing from it are clearly golden teachers. But how? It was growing ochras before the dunk and now these. But also, these look different than the other golden teacher bins I have growing.

[actives] outdoot shiitake logs, food grade wax for casing layer on actives?

For coir loving mushrooms, could you use food grade wax to use as a casing layer. You know how shiitake logs often will get food grade wax over the plug holes to help with contam control. Same concept for a shoebox bin, could this work?

[actives] GT’s in an ochra container

Hellllllooo,

I am learning first hand how dumb it is to grow cubes in a grow tent 😂 never again. Will do shoeboxes neglect tek moving forward. But anyways, I dunked a couple Ochra cakes and have yet to dunk a golden teacher cake, but they all share a tent but have dubtubs on top to minimize contam spread and etc. anyways, this giant ass golden Teacher plopped out of this ochra bin I had dunked and rehydrated, how is that possible? Or is the an ochra? Or did i accidentally smash tek a cross between the two species 😂

Dumb question, but contam right? [actives] I figured it mi

Kinda like a teal color, I removed it from the rest of the flock. Just wasn’t sure if it was bruising, yes I tried a science experiment and removed a section of this cake due to myco p. So wouldn’t be surprised if it’s contaminated, just the rest of the cake looks healthy.

I have this bin seperated and in its own tub on the other corner of the room, I have it set up with mason jars full of water and paper towels to hold humidity and I put plastic wrap over the bin instead of the dubtub cuz it felt like the right thing to do. Yesterday it looked like myco urin#, today like this. Is it bruising or is it contam? I can still hold it for a minute and keep away from the others. But just curious what y’all think. Some context; I have 6 shoeboxes with 3 ochra shoeboxes and 3 golden teachers. The spawn for the ochra was 2 LC syringes for 3 spawn jars and for GT I used 1 LC syringe. Realistically I should have given GT’s more time to colonize. I don’t think “introducing fruiting conditions too early” caused this in and of itself but as I increased FC I also started to handle the bins less cautious which was fine for the ochras but the GT bins were still vulnerable and should have been handled with care and sterility. Well, not handled to be specific lolol

Woke up this morning to the tops of the caps being inky black. It looked like spores dropped all over them making them give off that messy look, but upon further inspection the taller shrooms also have black on their caps. Is this spores or just the color of the Ochra pheno type. Pick now or wait till tonight /tomorrow morning?

I sent into FC too early and this cake has this discoloration on it. Bruising/moisture or contam? Second pic is of Ochra bin, bin is sprouting strong but there’s a weird color in the upper corner and maybe it’s blue? Or is that contam too? :(

  1. Fill up big tote with cold ass water from the tap.
  2. Prep your cake needing dunking; I won’t go over that cuz everyone is different.
  3. Gently submerge shoebox (or smaller tote, I mean if you could find a giant tote you could dunk mono tub same way)
4.keep cake lined up with lid.
  4. (I won’t go into it, but sanitary obvs. Clean tote and lid with iso)
  5. Wanna make sure the cake stays in its tote, and make sure that shoebox has holes so ir sinks better.
7.put lid back on shoebox, no need to latch and flip lid upside down.
  6. For better surface area take that metal thing from pressure cooker and put that on top of the tote lid.
  7. Fill up pressure cooker with water.
  8. Gently put pressure cooker on top of everything . This step here is why it’s imperative the cake still is inside its respective tote/shoebox.
  9. Lid on pressure cooker then lid on the big tote.
  10. Next day slowly take everything out minus the cake. Let the cake float around freely so as the small pins and aborts and shit can float off.
  11. Generally I like to wipe out the shoebox bin, this step might be where other people put liners in.z

Not sure if this is already how some people do it but I like giving the mycelium cake a giant cold pool to swim around in lol. When you put it back in the shoebox it just seems cleaner than had I just soaked in the shoebox container.

Also; if this is step for step already a tek I will take it down 😂 I didn’t think it was but if it is then I must of been asleep and heard it while I left my tv on or some shit. Anyways hope this is helpful for some
