Hey, I guess I will just put it simple, I have not any real will to create the next Hollow Knight, neither to be a full time gave developer or anything. Although, I have always being into horror media, also, into creating horror stories. However, lets be real, people dont read novels or small stories today, and maybe the media such as creepypastas are similars are not the same it used to be. So, the thing is, I thinking about trying to make simple horror games as hobbie. Take into account I would at first try to make a short horror story in terms of videogames, I mean something simple thay you would end in just an hour or something like that. I have zero experience in gave developing, and I have basic knowledge of programming (however I wouldnt mind to get deep as it is a useful skill in my carreer path), at the same way, I would probably rely on free assets as well. I have been thinking about two main options:
-RPG Maker: I have grown up with games like Mogeko Castle, Ib or Mad Father, so I guess the idea would be to try to replicate something like that. Probably would look a bit outdated maybe? (Dont really know). As I know the interfaces and other things is far more beguinner-friendly but I dont really know how easily is to try to change its atmosphere to "scary", if that even makes sense.
-Unity or Godot: The idea would be to make one of those games with PS1 vibe that you can end in short time. Obviously, this is the most optimistic scenario, as probably starting with 3D is too reckless, so maybe I would start with someone similar to the RPG Maker thing but created at those engines for starting or a game more "narrative" like Saeko (but probably it would be impossible relying only on free assets). Then eventually I would try to move to other things.
I know myself and I would probably like an option in which I can "create something more or less interesting" in a not that long period of time, but I would like to hear any ideas. Besides, I would like to know what kind of things I would have to put more interesting in. I mean, as I have said I would limit myself to short games with focus on narrative more in a dynamic gameplay, which I think change the way you have to approach the project.
