Looking for advice on an Air France EU261 situation (possible denied boarding).

A friend had a confirmed booking on Air France from Singapore to Morocco (SIN → CDG → Morocco CMN) on a single ticket.

At the airport, even though the original flight (AF257) did operate, my friend was bumped and not allowed to board, and was rebooked onto AF257A, which departed about 12 hours later.

Air France is rejecting compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004, saying it doesn’t apply because the journey “starts and ends outside the EU.”

From what I understand:

This looks like involuntary denied boarding (overbooking)

Airline is an EU carrier

First leg arrives into the EU (CDG)

It’s a single booking

Questions:

Does EU261 apply here despite origin + final destination both outside EU?

For denied boarding on an EU airline (outside EU → EU), is compensation still €600?

Any experience pushing back on Air France for this kind of rejection?
