Abandoned mall converted to a mega church
The abandoned mall on Orchard Road—originally known as the Beau Monde Shopping Mall-tells a strange story. Built in the mid-1980s as a high-end, European-style shopping center filled with brick walkways, fountains, and boutique storefronts, the mall struggled almost immediately as the local economy declined and retail demand fell short. By the late 1980s, it had already failed and was sold to a growing religious congregation, which transformed the space into a massive "mega church," repurposing former shops into chapels, offices, and worship halls. Over time, the church itself declined, and by the 2010s the building was largely abandoned, left sitting off Orchard Road as a hollow shell of both its commercial and spiritual past. Today, behind its still-standing exterior, the interior has fallen into disrepair-graffiti and vandalism.
