avulsion fracture
I had an injury at work when I was walking down the steps and missed the last 2. I twisted my foot and went straight to the emergency room. Was told it was just a sprain.
Waited 2 weeks and went to an orthopedic clinic that took another Xray. Said it was a grade 2 sprain. Put me in a boot.
Went back 2 weeks later for another Xray. 4 weeks since injury. They said they missed a fracture on the base of my 5th metatarsal bone. Kept me in a boot. Didn’t tell me exactly what kind of fracture. Did some research and found it to be an avulsion fracture.
Had an mri done and it said I only had the fracture. I’m at 7 weeks now and still have some pain. Can’t put weight on it barefooted. Very sore. I have another appointment next week. 8 weeks since injury and 6 weeks in boot at my appointment next week.
I don’t feel like it’s healed. Is it normal to still not be able to put bare weight on it yet at 7 weeks? I could in a good sole shoe but not barefooted. Seems like the boot has made it much more sore. Is this normal?
I have the worst pain in the morning. Feels like the blood just rushes to my foot. It’s very sensitive and aches. I just don’t feel like it’s ever going to heal. I was hoping at my 8 week appointment next week they would give me some good news. At least transition me into a good shoe. I just don’t see it happening because it’s so sore and still painful to put my weight on it barefoot. I do fine if I’m in my boot.
Is it normal to not be able to put weight on it at first even after it healed? I don’t feel like I have enough stability yet. Too sore.
