Disputing debt collections.

Hello,

So the beginning of March I received a letter from a collections agency saying I owed an energy company $450. However this is ridiculous as I had not had an account with them for three years and had proof I closed it out and paid all that was owed. However I six at checking my mail and it said I had till that day (the day I saw the letter) to dispute it. I got the letter after they closed so first thing in the morning I called them to dispute it which they allowed me to do. They also said the energy company had till May 11th (today) to respond.

I have not heard from them since. Not seen anything on my credit report, no letters, nothing. How should I proceed? Should I assume the debt has been dropped? Should I call and ask? Every thing I have seen regarding communicating with collections is to do it via mail but am not sure.

Disputing Collections

Hello!

So at the beginning of March I received a letter from a collections agency saying I owed $450 to an energy company for an account that I hadn’t had in 3 years. They claimed I never closed my account and when I called the energy company to clear this up they told me they had no records of me ever calling them or ever paying them at all during the 4 years I was a customer which was a ridiculous. I offered to show them the email I had that confirmed my account closure but they refused to see it.

I then called the collections agency to dispute it. I told them everything the energy company said and they put the collections as disputed and said that they had till May 11th (tomorrow) to respond and I also should call back on April 27th to see if they had responded.

I called on the 27th and the guy I spoke with acted like I shouldn’t had called but he told me that my dispute had yet to be responded to. My question is, should I be calling them? Should I call back tomorrow to see if the they responded to the dispute?

I was also given advice on here after I initially called that I should communicate with them only by mail. I just want to be sure to do everything right.

Someone keeps getting into my email.

Hello,

So title explains all. Yesterday at work I looked through my personal email and in my spam folder I saw multiple 2 factor authentications from gaming accounts such as Epic, Ubisoft, Battle Net, Steam and RSI all followed by emails saying my password was changed and email on the account was changed to random emails for each one. I freaked out because someone got into my Gmail and I received no warning despite in the past receiving a 2 factor notice.

I went to my security setting and saw my 2 factor was shut off and there were suspicious log ins the past few days in random places in the US and Europe. I disconnected those, changed my password and put my 2 factor back on my Gmail.

I had no clue how they could have got into my Gmail and the only way I could think was a virus through my desktop. I remember receiving a warning on it the other day that a suspicious file was found but it was caught and gotten rid of by the built in software. When I got home I ran multiple scans and no suspicious files were found but I went ahead and logged out of my Gmail on my desktop so only my phone has it.

Today, I get a warning saying my 2 factor was turned off. I immediately changed my password and turned it back on but am concerned at how whoever this is got in without triggering the 2 factor and got my password again.

What should I do? Any tips?

I also was able to recover the accounts the person changed the emails on thankfully.

I am on the Nickel Plate trail by the airport, on the new bridge and in the span of 10 minutes like 6 planes have landed. I have never seen it this busy. Two looked like small private jets and the rest were regular small planes.
