My boyfriend and I are both men and have been doing long distance for a long time (over 10,000 km apart because of work). The hardest part was always not knowing when we’d finally be together.

But recently things were actually starting to align. In two months he’ll return to his home country, which would already make the distance much smaller, and I also told him I was seriously considering moving there with a student visa while doing my postgraduate studies.

Instead of feeling hopeful, he suddenly ended the relationship.

He told me he “can’t handle another year of distance,” even though he also says he wants a future where we live together. His logic is basically that maybe it’s better to end now instead of risking a worse breakup later.

It completely broke me because from my perspective, we were finally close to solving the problem.

The confusing part is that we’re still talking, and he now wants us to go to London together because it’s always been my dream trip. His idea is basically to have one last beautiful experience together and then end things there.

Part of me thinks it could be a meaningful goodbye. Another part thinks it’ll destroy me emotionally.

Would you go? Or would you cut things off now?
