How helpful is Formula Student in reaching a race engineering career

Hello,
I'm deciding between my offer in the US and offers in the UK
I've received significant scholarship to University at Buffalo (US) for engineering physics, and the only thing stopping me from committing there is the entire Formula Student set up in the UK. I've got offers from University of Sheffield (mechanical eng), Loughborough University(eng phy), University of Southampton (mech eng), and am waiting on a decision from UCL (mech eng).

The scholarship amounts in UK are relatively much smaller, and I've actually only received an award from Loughborough currently, not gotten scholarship decisions from the rest yet. However, I have to make a deposit at University at Buffalo to confirm my place in the next two weeks.

Is it worth missing out on this opportunity at a cheaper degree in the US? I've been looking through the university websites for the UK unis and they seem to have placements in Williams, McLaren, etc., and I'm looking to understand how realistic this is. Also, is getting into a formula student team a competitive process?
In this case, would going for the eng phy degree not allow me to pursue this career?

Committing to university before receiving all offers

Hello,
I've received an offer with significant scholarship amount for an engineering physics degree for fall 2026 from University at Buffalo. Apparently I have to make the deposit by May 1 if I want to keep my place, however I've also applied to universities in the UK and gotten into some pretty decent universities.
I have a little dilemma here. I've not received scholarship decisions from universities in the UK yet, and I'm also waiting to hear back from UCL. I have gotten offers for mechanical engineering from 3 unis there and engineering physics from 1.
One thing I was considering is that UK has a very easy Formula pipeline if I manage to get into Formula Student, since I do believe I want to get into race engineering in the future - this is a huge plus point for UK.
However Buffalo seems to be the most economical option currently due to the scholarship, so I guess it comes down to opportunities and quality of the course.

I'm worried if I don't commit to UB and don't receive scholarships in UK then I'll have passed up a huge opportunity, but if I commit to UB and end up with full ride (or close to full ride) from UCL then I'll have to lose my deposit to go to UCL instead. The deposit is pretty big.

For context, I'm from India finishing the IB programme, so I'm an overseas student. I don't know much about the US.
