May Trip Recap

I love reading about others trip experiences so thought I’d post this in case it helps another family.

Just got back from my second Disney World trip 5/2 - 5/9 and it was a blast! We lucked out with no rain other than on our arrival day.

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. The resort is small but it feels super calm and relaxing. It’s got a beautiful vibe and has a good amount of things to see and do in my opinion.

I went with a 3 year and 4 year old, my husband, and my in-laws so having a small resort was terrific. We were able to get our rooms close together and it was never difficult to stop at the main area for food, drinks, or pool time.

The food was good but the cafeteria (Sassagoula Floatworks) could be chaotic at times. There were times the cooks forgot about tickets and the cast members at the cash registers had some issues two of the days we were there which caused us to wait in line to pay for about 20 minutes. I also wish there was a little more variety but the food was very tasty and we had the boat and bus option to Disney Springs so we hopped over there to eat a few times.

We got lightening lanes which worked very well for us, we rode everything we wanted to and often times had to skip out on rides to take breaks. In retrospect, because my kids are so young, I feel we could have skipped the multi passes and just monitored app times. The waits were never terrible except Toy Story area of Hollywood studios.

One thing I’ve learned from this trip is that planning is important but at the end of the day things won’t go 100% according to plan and that’s ok. It was such a magical experience that even when things went wrong it wasn’t hard to take a step back and just appreciate being there with the kids. I spent so much time planning the perfect trip and somehow my favorite parts were the simplest ones: wandering the resort with my oldest and going down the pool slide over and over with my youngest. The little unexpected moments ended up meaning more than any reservation or ride ever could.

Both times we’ve gone have been first week of May and stayed at French Quarter. I’m scared to mess with something that works but I’m super curious about trying another resort (possibly Caribbean Beach) and a different time of year. If you have any suggestions totally up for hearing them!
