Job Panic + COL
Long story short, military relationship, moving to Hawaii, scared about COL.
Options so far…
Option 1: potentially Hawaii public schools SLPlll (specific pay unknown since there may be extras due to type of school and need of SLP, but actual paystep is low). PTO, federal and state holidays (will line up with spouses). Get off at a reasonable time. I’ve worked in schools for two years. Salary.
Option 2, private practice, $54 an hour, doc and cancels paid, “seems” like I can achieve 70 hrs in a pay period. There is no PTO, but technically unlimited time off if needed and flexible scheduling. Report writing and notes need to be practiced to conform to the pp and you have to be evaluated to make sure you are providing quality therapy. No weekends unless you want. Get off ~5-6.
Option 3: I haven’t heard back yet… but hospital (acute and some outpatient). Salary ($100k or slightly above range). Would give me the opportunity to expand medically and take a break from kids. I do have experience in this area. Unknown PTO (but that’s what they would have) and unknown hours.
I’m at a loss. The schools would be the easiest to transition in, but I’m so scared of the COL and feeling like I am struggling to survive. Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated.
